The
land of Hyrule, governed by a hereditary monarchial kingdom supposedly
spanning centuries of world history, is as legendary as Atlantis.
There are few yet extant clues that give credence to its existence, but
not any excavated evidence to support its geographic location here on
Earth. A people known as the Hylians, human in form of normal build,
but possessing long pointed ears, are the subjects of either fantasy or
probability. While what has been left behind has fascinated
generations of people in the Old and New World for over
thirty years, the surviving annals of Hyrule's long history likely
points to a more medieval time in the human story; an epic saga more
akin to Arthur ap Eutherius (0479 - 0538), founder and king of the 'original "United Kingdom" whom truly existed but hast been reduced to legend and myth by the way of papist clerics. But,
why is this kingdom deprived of any reliable surviving records? Did
Hyrule ever exist? Or, is it the product of folklore and imagination?
Why do the characters of the Hylian language appear similar to those of
the Orient, yet no trace of the Hyrulean society can be found in the
Far East? Was Hyrule located on a large island that is now submerged
beneath the sea? There are many chronicles of this legend; one of the
first detailing the rise of an Evil King, the return of Hyrule's
legitimate Crown Princess, and the prophesied appearance of a Hero.
But, in order to understand the whole story, one must learn the
heritage of the Hylian people and the lives of the revered Hero's
progenitors. Let us go to the beginning.

The creation of Hyrule as chronicled by the ancient Hylians
The quintessential source of history for Hyrule is in the Hylian Book of Mudora, a volume containing the Hylian language
and prophecies fulfilled and unfulfilled. The Hylian account on the
creation of the Earth and the establishment of its venerated symbol, the Triforce, is herefore detailed:
Long ago, there existed a kingdom wherein a golden power lay hidden. It was a prosperous land blessed with green forests, tall mountains, clean waters, and peace. Before time hath began, before spirits and life existed, three golden goddesses descended upon the planet wherein chaos dwelt that was to become the land of Hyrule; Din, the goddess of power, Nayru, the goddess of wisdom, and Farore, the goddess of courage. Din, with her strong flaming arms, cultivated the land and enriched the red soil of the surface. Nayru, poured her wisdom onto the planet and gave the spirit of law to the world. Farore, with her rich soul, produced all life forms who would uphold the law. The three great goddesses, with their labors completed, departed for the heavens. And golden sacred triangles remained at the point where the goddesses ascended into the atmosphere and departed from Earth. A small but powerful portion of the essence of the gods was held in this mighty artifact, which was to guide the lives of intelligent beings in Hyrule. Since then, the Triforce has been the principal foundation for our peacetime and prosperity. And, the resting place of these triangles has become a paradise known as the Sacred Realm, which is parallel with Hyrule.
To
prevent a mortal from gaining access to the Sacred Realm by casual
entry, thereby causing a disruption with the balance of nature, the
ancient Sages decided to build the Temple of Time in order to protect
the Triforce; especially from those of an evil countenance. So, the
three goddesses had after a time elected to hide the Triforce itself,
which had contained the power of their superiors, the gods.
The
Triforce itself has the power to grant the wish of one whom holdeth it
in his hands. If someone with a righteous heart makes a wish, it will
keep Hyrule in a golden age of progress and innovation. If someone with
wicked desires has his wish granted, the world will be utterly
consumed by evil. The resting place of the sacred Triforce, the Sacred
Realm, is a mirror that reflects what is in one's heart. If one hath a
heart of iniquity, the Realm will becometh full of malevolence; if
having a heart of purity, the Realm shalt remaineth a paradise. If the
heart of the one who holds the sacred triangle having all essential
forces of life in balance, that one shalt gain the True Force to govern
all. But, if that one's heart is not in balance, the Triforce will
separate into three parts: Power, Wisdom and Courage. If only one part
of the Triforce remains, it will be the third of the whole representing
the force that individual most believes in. Should he seeketh the True
Force, he must acquire the two remaining parts. Those
two parts will be held within others chosen by destiny, and a mark
representing the whole Triforce will be mystically brandished upon
the palm of their hand. And when the three separated parts are joined
together, each individual therein will see the glow of their part of
the Triforce illuminated to signify the union of the complete
Triforce...
Early History of Hyrule
After more than a thousand years of nomadic living in the dominion that was Hyrule, the Hylian people mutually agreed by compact to set up a formal government to be headed hereditarily by 'the Hylian Noble House of Royalé, an intact blood-line family dynasty of the highest moral standing in which the whole Hylian populace genuinely respected. The compact that organized their society and monarchial government was hallowed in:

In
the
Hylian Year 1020,
it is by this agreement between the
Hylian people and
the
new Royal Family that
the
Hylian Kingdom of Hyrule was
formally consecrated. The first King
of the Hylians,
Ethelred
Avery Humbert Royalé was
adamant that his first task be on establishing a cabinet made up of
the country's most intelligent and talented inhabitants. The
Gerudo were
amongst the closest and most loyal of allies with the
Hylian people.
The
Gerudo,
a large group of cinnamon-skinned gypsies with a majority population
of women, originally resided in Gitano
Vecindario,
a predecessor to Kakariko
Village -
later a pastoral village below Death
Mountain.
Years before the
Hylian Kingdom was
set up, the
Gerudo had
long-desired in returning to their ancestral homeland in the desert
far
to the west. Within three years, having synchronously expanded their
land holdings, they constructed a massive temple in honor of their
first Gerudo
Prime Minister.
This
temple would also serve as a residential palace and place of worship
for the prime minister and their future king.
In
the Hylian Year 1023,
during a widely-celebrated cross-country expedition visiting Hyrule's
various indigenous peoples, King
Ethelred was cordially invited to tour
the Gerudo's
newly-completed construction project. He was so
impressed and enraptured by its engineering and architecture that he
insisted upon his cabinet members in commissioning the construction
of similar temples reflective of their native cultures. Over a ten
year period, earth was carefully excavated and four other temples
were intricately built and completed. When the
Gerudo officially re-established their
society out
west, the
Hylian King, had bestowed the title of
“Sage” to the
Gerudo's first Prime Minister and
to four other of his highest ranking cabinet members. Together, they
became known as “the
King's Sages.” In
the event of an emergency, one of the king's children would be
bestowed as “the
Final Sage.”
To
prevent “unwarranted favoritism” or usurpation, it did not matter
if the title could be assumed by either a prince
or princess
from the
Hylian Royal Family.
This final sage was required to at least be sixteen years of age.
The
Gerudo people,
with their reformed community, also looked to their chief priestess
for spiritual guidance and wisdom. In the
Hylian Year 1033,
Prima
Twinrova,
the most beautiful of Gerudo
women,
was chosen to be the
first Gerudo High Priestess
for
her love of service and her prolific education. Prima's
scope
of knowledge was unsurpassed within the
Gerudo nation,
and even with the
Hylian people.
But, as with some learned individuals, it proved to be a weakness for
her desires to serve her people would turn towards their subjugation.
Before permanently moving with the rest of her people, the priestess
resided in Gitano
Vecindario.
But whilst dwelling there, Prima
was
secretly conspiring to usurp authority and take over governorship of
all the
Gerudo.
As both spiritual and political leader, she could have virtually
unopposed influence since she had obtained means in the use of magic.
Without a balance in governance, the potential to brainwash her own
people into total obedience was all too suspicious as Prima
herself
had exclaimed such sentiments in public moments of impatience.
Apparently acquiring knowledge in magic
had
tainted her renowned moral core towards a pursuit for authoritarian
control. After serving only mere months as priestess, in a matter of
weeks in the middle of Summer, it was
discovered
that she was a traitor;
the
Gerudo clan
therefore
charged their spiritual leader with High
Treason.
To make certain Lady
Twinrova
would
not retaliate by any forceful means, the
Gerudo Prime Minister
with
a strong alliance with the
Hylian King,
sent out
the
Sheikah
-
the
Hylian Royal Family's
private
mercenaries and personal body guards
-
to
banish
her to Interior
Wasteland
indefinitely,
and depriving her of her personal effects. Interior
Wasteland
was
a harsh and uninhabited landscape with miles of sand dunes in every
direction. Because of this isolation, only a handful of her personal
Gerudo
servants
were
allowed to maintain attendance with her; and to act as peaceful
couriers between the
Gerudo
living
at their principal
stronghold and communal castle:
Gerudo
Fortress.
Gerudo
Desert's
interior
was also known for its quicksand rivers and inevitable encounters
with Leevers:
poisonous carnivorous plants native to the area. As ultimate
punishment, Prima
was
banished to the very center of Interior
Wasteland
to
live out the rest of her natural life in a discontinued stone
fortress. Before the Interior
Wasteland was cursed to suffer a perpetual sandstorm during the reign of the Gerudo's sixth king, this edifice had early served as the mid-way rest point for the western trading routes connecting Gerudo Valley to the lands beyond the land of Hyrule. The ceaseless sandstorm that invades the Interior
Wasteland had destroyed a lush oasis and water spring which the stone structure had preserved with its construction of a much-valued cistern.
Even before her due punishment, which she deduced was inevitable, Lady Twinrova had left behind a family which no one knew about. She had fallen deeply in love with a Sheikah man and three years before had given birth to twins: a son and a daughter. Just before her apprehension, she insisted upon her husband and children to quickly relocate to Hyrule Castle Town, the Hylian kingdom's capital city, to avoid detection from amongst those still living in Gitano Vecindario. When Prima's son grew up and came of age, he married and started his own family; his later descendants would become the wealthiest family in Kakariko Village.

Because
of this unanticipated episode of Treason
within the
boundaries of Hyrule,
the
King's Sages
were reportedly compelled by divine revelation to build a new
structure; to sever and dissuade any easy access to the Sacred Realm
by mere mortals for ill-gain. In the northeastern corner of
the
Capital City,
the Temple
of Time
was
built in a matter of months, and Hyrule's
prized
gemstones
-
representing the elements to which Din,
Farore,
and Nayru
used
to bring order to Hyrule
-
were each returned to the indigenous cultures to which they
originally belonged. Not openly known, the Three
Spiritual Stones
united were vital keys in order to gain entry into the
Sacred Realm.
The
temple's chief architect, Rauru
Eruditus,
was King
Ethelred's
foremost
scholar, and Hyrule's
celebrated
chronicler; whom was a man of extraordinary insight concerning the
Triforce
and
its creators. As instructed by royal command, the Temple
of Time
was
built facing the west as a reminder to the
Gerudo
that
one of their own, a woman of high intelligence yet dangerous
aspirations, had inspired the need for its construction. And, as a
token of good will for continuing friendly relations with the
Hylians and
other races, the Temple
of Time's
floor
was inlaid with Gerudo
marble
quarried from a previously unused site just uphill from their
principal guardhouses. This site later made way for expanding their
equestrian and archery training fields. The Temple
of Time
was
also constructed as a house of worship, similar to the architectural
style of their earlier cathedrals. It was tradition in all the
land of Hyrule
as
well as imperative that each community or town have a Sanctuary.
In
the Hylian
Year 1053,
after Prima
Twinrova's daughter
Una graduated
from the University
of Hyrule at
the age of twenty-three, she had fled from Hyrule
Castle Town without
notice in the hopes of finding and meeting her biological mother in
Gerudo Desert.
Taking with her surviving maps of the western territory, archived in
her father's manorial library, she was able to travel all the way
through Gerudo
Valley to
the desert's edge undetected. When she finally located her mother at
the lone masonry edifice - by the way of a long yet weakening wooden
bridge, leading from the Gerudo
Fortress' gateway
- Prima
embraced her daughter
with affection and happiness. Una
learned from her
mother herself concerning her sentencing and Prima
sincerely came to
regret it wholeheartedly. For penance, she bestowed her faithful
daughter letters of introduction to the
Gerudo and
all the necessary information concerning her people and heritage.
During her incarceration in the wasteland's tower for twenty years,
Prima
had access to quills
and parchment paper; she recorded all that she remembered concerning
her education in so many fields of study. She had lost all of her
valuable erudition concerning magic, so for Una,
she was of no help in that treatise. However, the eager maiden
naturally embraced her mother's passion for learning and science.
When Una
later revealed herself
to the Gerudo,
they were impressed that she could evade their scheduled security
rounds without detection. She was able to convince them of her honest
allegiance and even set out to prove it.
Over
a matter of weeks, Una Twinrova
displayed her impressive
abilities and erudition in horsemanship, chivalry, swordsmanship,
archery, languages, aquaculture, and dancing. The
Gerudo consented by
majority and they accepted her into their clan. In the
Hylian Year 1060, at the
age of thirty years – a rather young age in any Hyrulean
culture - Una
Twinrova became the
second Gerudo High Priestess in
honor of her mother's earlier yet short-lived career. She
re-established a correspondence with her father and brother. When
this familial bond became known to the public conscience, it was made
as an example for diplomatic discourse thereafter; it also became the
most famous and eloquent of Hyrulean
literature ever composed
between the two allied races. And for another three hundred and
forty-nine years, warm-hearted relations between the
Hylians and the
Gerudo helped to
maintain peace throughout the whole of Hyrule.
With
the numbers of male
Gerudo having
dwindled significantly over the passed century, it was a common and
acceptable practice for Gerudo
women to
marry Hylian men.
With this, the
Gerudo people were
able to keep their population strong and growing, and maintain a fair
populace of both men and women. Many families even remained in Gitano
Vecindario,
with the growing community serving as a caravan trade route between
far off villages beyond the mountain ranges of
Death Mountain
and Hyrule
Castle Town.
With the first King of the Gerudo taking the throne in the Hylian Year 1060, all direct male descendants thereafter from 'the Gerudo Chivalric House of Dragmire' would assume the Gerudo kingship in his twentieth year. When she remained exiled to the Gerudo Desert, Una Twinrova had located a remnant spring flowing underneath the stone floor of her prison house and then had secretly preserved it. The minerals in the water were what helped prolong her life in to centuries, far beyond the traditional Gerudo longevity of no more than one hundred and fifty years. Its because of this longevity that the former High Priestess maintained a special influence on Gerudo culture and society.
Later in Hyrulean history, the cherished alliance between the Gerudo and the rest of Hyrule would prove to be traumatic as well as horrific, with the Gerudo paying the most tragic price...
History
of the Gerudo Kingship
When
the Gerudo
formally established their distinct society in the
western territory of Hyrule, they too
set up a monarchy to be headed by a hereditary king. In the
Hylian Year 1060, the first male of 'the Gerudo Chivalric House of Dragmire' was born. As with the practice
in other Hyrulean
monarchial nation states, the
kingship was assumed by the prescribed male
at the age of twenty years.
The King of the Gerudo
serves as king regardless of how he
progresses in age until his direct male issue
can assume the throne. Depending on when his son would be born, the
King of the Gerudo
could serve many decades until the time came for his bloodline
successor. Additionally, with Una
Twinrova living longer and healthier
than the average Gerudo
male or female, her office and role as
Gerudo High Priestess
made way for her to serve another purpose: should the biological
mother of the future king pass away before his expected coronation,
she would raise him under her care and tutelage as his surrogate
mother. Una
Twinrova herself would not ever take
on such a capacity until the
seventh Gerudo King would require it.
The future Gerudo king
is trained in horsemanship, swordsmanship, etiquette, politics,
diplomacy, chivalry, and even magic.
Over
more than three-hundred and fifty years, the
Dragmire dynasty
would
produce a sizable family over the succeeding generations including
two
Prime Ministers
and
seven
kings.
Dragmire was
first used as a surname
when
the first
King of the Gerudo
was
born under the shade of an oasis near the
desert palace.
Dragmire
is
a
Gerudo term
transliterated
from the
ancient Hylian draggmyre
meaning
“to
draw out mud.” Draggmyre
is
a
Hyrulean soil mineral
used
as a principal ingredient for making mortar
and
it can be found in bedrock by “drudging
out bogs and marshes”
hence,
“drag mire.”
In
the Hylian Year 1060,
the
Gerudo Prime Minister
envisioned
and commissioned an amazing engineering feat-
she
ordered the
mesa rock face of the existing desert palace
to
be carved out by female
Gerudo engineers and stone masons
to
fashion the image of Una
Twinrova,
the
Gerudo High Priestess.
Also as a gift for his expected kingship, the
palatial residence was
expanded even more so that the
future Gerudo king
would
live in total comfort and luxury. The
desert
palace itself houses
elaborate living quarters, massive treasure hoards, engraved Gerudo
hieroglyphs,
various statues representative of Gerudo
flora and fauna,
and the results of extraordinary mechanical and metallurgical
innovations. The
exterior excavation and carving project took ten years to complete
when the
Gerudo's future first king
was
age ten. To support the extra weight of this
statue's outstretched
hands - which architecturally were platforms leading back inside the
temple - draggmyre
was
ordered for use so the structure could withstand the desert heat,
likely sandstorms, and any potential rainfall. Remaining draggmyre
was
applied (1) upon another commemorative statue situated in the
temple's Great Hall,
and (2) for sealing the stone walls of two mirror-image throne rooms,
each leading to a hand of the outer statue. In the
Hylian Year 1070,
the
Gerudo bestowed
the title of “Goddess
of the Sand” upon
Una
Twinrova in
honor of her wisdom and priestesshood;
for her decade-long tenure produced no controversy or ill-will. Una
Twinrova would
prove to be a valuable asset over the centuries on behalf of the
whole Gerudo nation

friends. Agahnim will also play a role in the overall "Ocarina

struggling with good and evil and the appropriate use of magic].
An
Alliance Tarnished and Severed
[This
section has yet to be fully composed. It will explain the declining
diplomatic relations between the Hylians and the Gerudo, and the
events that led to their animosity. Ganondorf's father - Sortiarius
Dragmire, the sixth Gerudo King
- will
be responsible for "The Fierce Wars."
The reasons why the Shadow Temple converted many rooms into torture
chambers, why Poes haunt the Kakariko Graveyard and Hyrule Field, and
the origin of Twinrova's split into two personalities (Koume and
Kotake) will be explained].
The
Fierce Wars
[This
period of warfare severs the alliance between the Hylians and the
Gerudo and explains why most of the countryside
of Hyrule, even in times of relative political peace,
suffers from unusual levels of magic and hauntings;
the Stalchildren, for example. The 'every
one hundred years creed for one Gerudo male child' is instituted
during this time].
Early Modern
Hyrule
The
1400's: The Hylian Fifteenth Century
In
the first thousand years, when the
Hylians settled throughout
the land of
Hyrule, they recorded their history
and “divinely-ordained visions and prophecies yet unfulfilled” by
the way of spoken word and ascribed onto long scrolls. As time
passed, and frequent with oral tradition, such treasured lore would
at times become misconstrued, forgotten, or simply vanished; mainly
by poor management. But, the most important knowledge was made
permanent and openly available within official texts. And, by the
conscientiousness of a few notable families, essential truths were
keep intact to prevent Hyrule's
past from being reduced to legend or myth. By this
principle, it became well-known throughout that only “the
ancient ones,” the
King's Sages, knew how
to definitively locate the sacred
golden triangles: the Triforce.
With the details of such information entrusted specifically to these
sages, it would later prove to be yet another major dilemma for the
peoples inhabiting the
land of Hyrule.
The
Triforce was
profoundly esteemed by Hyrule's
inhabitants,
yet it was not attainable by any known physical means. What could be
known to all was the all too familiar clue about its whereabouts
composed upon the parchment
texts
found in the Hylian
Book of Mudora:
In
a realm beyond sight, the sky shineth gold, not blue.
Wherein
the Triforce's might maketh mortal dreams come true.
The
Great Conquests
1405
- 1410
After
The
Fierce Wars,
with the
Gerudo people
sequestering
themselves from the rest of Hyrule,
a new battle for ultimate power lay on the horizon. Manic enchantment
for the
Triforce drove
a great many of Hyrule's
peoples to
embark on arduous searches for the divine, wish-granting treasure.
Locations such as the isolated
terrain of
Gerudo Desert,
the
volcanic caverns within Death Mountain,
and even under the shadowy
graveyard to
the east of Kakariko
Village were
thought to be credible places to uncover that desired relic. Some
tombs of Hylian
Royal Family members
had
the walls of their burial vaults inlaid with gold, hence “in
a realm beyond sight”
-
that being 'underground'
-
and the ceiling of their crypts would shine bright by the
illumination of lanterns or torches. But these areas proved false.
When it was made public that graves were being desecrated and vaulted
tombs being explored, it was obvious that an immoral craving for the
Triforce had
clouded the hearts of once noble men, only to develop a lust for
power. With five years of appalling and even violent adventures,
large bands of militias formed from the four dominant societies
within the
land of Hyrule -
the
Hylians,
the
Zoras,
the
Gorons,
and the
Gerudo -
to decide which Hyrulean
race would
be the final and legitimate heirs in inheriting all of the secret
knowledge concerning the
Triforce;
and in being its primary protectors from ill-designing men.
Therefore, the core reason for locating and obtaining the
Triforce itself was
based upon extreme covetousness.
The
War Amongst the Hyrulean Nations
1410
- 1413
The
clashing battles and raging wildfires that spread throughout Hyrule
would
come to be known as “The Hyrulean Civil War.” This period of
warfare lasted three years, but seemed never-ending. Generals gathered
their armies across the vast meadows and hills of Hyrule
Field,
located in the heart of Hyrule.
One
village beyond the southern shores of Lake
Hylia lived a knight truly loyal to the Hylian
Kingdom of Hyrule. He was named Leonellus
Lagomorpha Hyrulia. His wife Oluna
Leona Hialeah Hyrulia had recently given birth to a son
they named Link Leonellus Hyrulia.
Duty bound Leonellus as a husband
and father to spirit his family to complete safety. The village
itself, named Hylia
Aldea, suffered intense destruction, mainly by fire
during regional warfare. Many of the King's
loyal reserve Castle Guards took
residence in this community, mere miles from the
Capital City.
The
nearby serene and massive lake was being polluted by the bloodshed of
fallen, disloyal Hylians, along with Gorons
and Zoras
caught in the crossfire. Leonellus
accompanied by his own brother Carlexander
Custodis Hyrulia with their fellow soldiers quickly dug a
stream to release the blood-diluted water from the
sacred lake into the burning village. The
two brothers agreed their beloved hometown would never be
revived or rebuilt, so lastly, they decided to partially flood it.
They also reasoned that the pure water in Lake
Hylia must be preserved at all costs; a group of Zoras
they had befriended joined their militia and became their staunch
allies. The Hyrulia brothers
respected the Zora people and
their heritage with sincere regards and propriety.
The
entrance to the small town was a large arched doorway cut through the
sandstone. The land bridge above caved in completely sealing the
entryway, and the pathway and embankment eroded and lastly sunk into
the lake. Thereafter, this village was sealed behind the cliff-side
sandstone walls never to be visited again.
Leonellus
with his family and troops departed Lake
Hylia and made their way into Hyrule
Field. The large battle on this sprawling grassland
was engulfed by huge waves of fire. Oncoming enemy combatants lunged
toward the mighty knight and his family. Leonellus' troops fought
them off as he led his wife and newborn son
along the forested sandstone walls that enclosed the rolling plains.
As the violent fighting continued, Leonellus
compelled Oluna to take refuge in
Kokiri Forest, a verdant woodland
and sacred forest not seen by many Hylians.
He promises to come back for her once the war is over. Oluna
and Link disappear into a dark pathway. The brave cavalier
then fights off opposing Hylian forces.
Two
Hylians take refuge in the forbidden forest
The
entire wilderness was governed by the forest matriarch Saria
while
Mido, a
fellow Kokiri,
self-proclaimed himself “Boss of the Kokiri” within the forest
village. The
Kokiri townspeople
ultimately
pledge allegiance to the Great
Deku Tree,
guardian spirit of the forest. Saria could sense that someone was in
danger. She asked fellow
Kokiri girls
to
accompany her to the
bridge in the Lost Woods.
Saria
was
correct in her premonition and saw the
Hylian mother
struggling
to make her way through a long and imposing log tunnel whilst
carrying her newborn
son.
Saria
instantly
ran to the weakened woman
and
led her into the isolated town, taking the battered and slightly
burned mother into an empty house. She nursed Oluna's
wounds
and promised
to safeguard her into the protection of the forest. She foresaw Oluna
being a strong influence in her
son's future,
and that the
boy is
destined for greatness. Oluna
knew she could not leave right away to search for her
husband,
honoring his wishes. She did maintain faith that he was still alive
and they would one day reunite.
With
the help of Saria, Oluna
and Link were presented to
the majestic Deku Tree. The Great
Deku Tree accepted these two
Hylians into his domain prophesying the
baby boy will positively affect the world. The Great
Deku Tree believed that Link had to adopt Kokirish society
in order to protect him. This augustus oak
already knew of two truths, yet to be fulfilled: (1), an
outsider from the far west, clad in black armor, will put
a terrible spell on him because he will refuse in surrendering the
forest's precious green jewel, and (2) Link
at the age of ten years will succeed in a courageous task requested
by the Great Deku Tree himself...
The
Postbellum Life of Leonellus
1413
– 1423
Within
ten years, during the time the
Hylian King began
unifying the
Hyrulean country “under
one banner,”
Leonellus'
life changed
significantly. Because of his heroic deeds during the war and aiding
in formally establishing diplomatic relations with the other warring
parties, King
Gustaf awarded
“the
Knight from the bloodline of Hyrulia” with
many awards. When the war ended, he turned down an offer from the
Hylian King to
serve as one of his twenty elite
Hylian Knights,
that being one of the
King's top
personal bodyguards. Enticing and as honoring the offer was,
Leonellus
graciously
declined for he believed his long public service had run its course.
King
Gustaf lamented
at his final decision but the
highly decorated knight immediately
assumed the life of a civilian.
Soon
after, when Leonellus
was resting
at the
bridge in the Lost Woods, hoping to locate his
family, he
learned from Saria
that he was
forbidden to enter Kokiri
Forest.
She warned him that if adult
Hylians spend
too much time in the
eastern woodlands,
they will eventually become Stalfos,
skeletal warriors stripped of their flesh and humanity. He
immediately regretted not returning sooner to retrieve his wife
and
son.
Saria
had
no preconceived intent in being dishonest, for she was telling
half-truths. In all honesty, if adult
Hylians spend
too much time within the
Lost Woods,
and not necessarily Kokiri
Forest,
that is where the forest's enchantment will overcome them. Saria
possessed no
malice in her heart for she was only relaying orders articulated from
the Great
Deku Tree on
behalf of prophecy, and for Link's
destiny on
obtaining the mantle of true heroism. Saria confirmed that the Great
Deku Tree has
shielded Leonellus'
wife and
son
into the
protection of the forest and from themselves becoming Stalfos.
For
a long time, Leonellus was
profoundly consumed by grief over losing his wife
and son to the enchanted
confinement of the forest. Professor Oculus
Veritas, a man well-versed in the
ways of the Sheikah, and elder citizen from
Hyrule Castle Town, befriended
Hyrule's foremost Hylian
military hero. The Professor
was in charge of the Hylian Theater,
a preeminent school that was a favored part of the University
of Hyrule; Leonellus'
alma mater. He encouraged the saddened
soldier to become an actor for the
Hylian Royal Family in stage productions. After a few
years, Leonellus became a
wanderer and a traveler.
On
his trips back to Hyrule
Castle Town,
Leonellus
would encounter fellow
Hylians
and elaborate about his amazing journeys from the world beyond the
borders of Hyrule,
a world inhabited by “humans,” 'Hylians
without pointed ears'
as he described them. During his time spent alone and away from his
family, he had became eccentric and “one with nature.” Of all
places, his absolute favorite haunt became Hyrule
Field;
the place where he had fought courageously on behalf of the kingdom.
The massive pampas spread for many miles and was home to many diverse
species of animals, especially the over-populated Hyrulean
Leporidae,
or locally named Hylian
Rabbit.
When Leonellus
was a child himself, his upbringing in Hylia
Aldea
reared him to appreciate wildlife, especially rabbits. However, when
necessary, the
Hylian King
would issue decrees requiring the hunting of the
Leporidae
to keep the populations low. Rabbits in Hyrule
had become so numerous during the preceding decades that gardens and
topiaries were constant victims from the wily creatures. The
Hylian King
even requested that citizens living in the
Capital City
to let their dogs roam freely at night to prevent any vermin from
taking residence within the city's fortified walls.
In
addition to his love for native animals, Leonellus
remained in being a great athlete,
often seen strolling and exercising on the main paths leading to
Hyrule Castle Town.
At night, he became so accustomed to the demonic
Stalchildren and helicoptic
Peahats that he possessed no
fear in their presence. Despite his newfound solitary life, Leonellus
made friends with Mutoh-
the Boss Carpenter of Kakariko
Village, Leonardo
Lago- Lake
Hylia's Aquaculturist,
Leonardo's son Bernardo Lago-
Lake Hylia's prolific
fisherman, and Kaepora Gaebora-
a gigantic Great Horned Owl. In moments of complete loneliness, he
always dreamed of reuniting with his wife
and son.
Leonellus'
brother Carlexander remained
a knight and took up residence in Hyrule
Castle Town.
He married and also had a son. King
Gustaf stationed
him at the gateway to Death
Mountain Trail in
Kakariko
Village.
Carlexander's
son,
a lad of seven years, constantly pesters him about getting the Keaton
Mask that
is ever so popular with Hyrule's
youth.
Because the
Hylian Kingdom had
nearly wiped out their rabbit population, the
Hyrulean Urocyon,
or Hylian
Nocturnal Fox,
is an even more rare animal of Hyrule's
fauna.
Ordinary Hylians
nicknamed
this bred of fox “Keaton”
because
the foxes would dwell near the
habitats of hawks,
too often becoming their victims. The Happy
Mask Salesman in
the Hyrule
Castle Town's marketplace produced
numerous masks, partly for profit, but also in tribute to the rare
animal hoping to raise awareness on its endangered predicament.
The
Hylian King vows to unify Hyrule
1413
- 1423
King
Gustaf Daltus Harkinian Royalé II
assumed
the
Hylian throne at
a time of great challenges. His father King
Gustaf the First had
passed away in the
Hylian Year 1402 with
his wife
and consort,
Queen
Amaryllis Drusilla Flagstaff Royalé
ruling
as regent
until
her son turned age twenty, three years later. With Gustaf becoming
the
Hylian King during
the start of The
Great Conquests,
Queen
Amaryllis then
became the
Hylian Queen Mother
and
remained in being widely beloved for her honest stewardship of the
government, for her personal integrity, and for her strong love for
all of Hyrule's
unique
cultures. During the succeeding years, she proves to be a strong
force in restoring friendships with the other races. After assuming
her role as Queen
Mother,
she was elected unanimously by the university's superiors to serve as
Madam
Chancellor for
the University
of Hyrule.
King
Gustaf the Second
entered
his kingship
with
many grave matters on his plate. With relations between the
Hylians and
the
Gerudo greatly
strained, such an essential alliance would have perhaps deterred the
events that brought on The
War Amongst the Hyrulean Nations.
However, during the war, he proved himself to be an able and
successful administrator of state affairs by fervently maintaining
the historic superiority of the
Hylian people. And
lastly, he ardently pledged to end the violence by unifying all
peoples of Hyrule
under
a mutual union, and under one banner. This banner was the
Hylian Royal Family's coat of arms
and
would serve as the
official state seal and symbol
for
the developing confederation.
Under
this system, the other nations would become satellite dominions but
still maintain their own traditional monarchs. After
the other
Hyrulean races entertained
the idea of a unified Hyrulean kingdom,
three out of the four respective patriarchs soon after came together
and signed the agreement known as:
The
Hyrulean Compact For Mutual Unity, MCDXIII
Only
a three-fourths majority of Hyrule's
primary races was
required to validate the compact. Any remaining Hyrulean
culture was
at liberty to remain under their own jurisdiction, but without the
benefits of being a part of a united realm. With the participating
parties having signed the accord, they formed The
United Kingdom of Hyrule.
The Hylian King thereby
became the Hyrulean King,
or the King of Hyrule with
himself and his Royal Family
serving all
of Hyrule's peoples and races under
a unified allegiance. King Gustaf
became Sworn Brothers
with the
Big Boss of the Gorons: Darunia
Pedregoso. For ages, the
Hylian people were not
accustomed to seeing the Gorons
in commonplace. Although Hylian
Soldiers and Castle
Guards relied on the
Gorons for their skills
in metallurgy and sword tempering, the
common people were weary
of the cavernous foreigners. With Gustaf
and Darunia
having developed a genuine
bond of brotherhood, public
anxiety concerning the Gorons
became relaxed. Gorons
were therefore increasingly
encouraged to shop at the marketplace, attend the University, and to
assist Hylians with
sword-making. As long as his subjects had equipped protective armor
and a Hylian shield when
traveling up the road to Goron City,
the King allowed
commerce to commence openly with the
Gorons. The
trail up the mountain was
always kept gated because the mountainous pathways and terrain were
dangerous for any average traveler no matter their age or build.
Hylians of
high or low estate wishing to conduct trade with the
Gorons were always
accompanied by the newly organized “Hyrulean
Soldiers” for safety.
Death Mountain Trail was
littered with poisonous Tektites,
the occasional Skulltula,
and Death Mountain itself
was indeed an active volcano,
prone to unexpected yet occasionally tame eruptions.
King
Gustaf maintained the long-held alliance with the
Zora people, by keeping a close
friendship with their reigning leader, King
Zora Aquatilis Hybrida XVI. The
Zoras had always served the
Hylian Royal Family as allies by protecting and preserving
Hyrule's principal waterways,
originating in the corrie lake of Zora's
Fountain. Like the Gerudo
in centuries passed, the Zora people
always held civil discourse with the
Hylians. Because the recent wars nearly destroyed all of
Hyrule's ancient aqueducts, King
Gustaf himself appealed to King
Zora for the continued supervision of the source of Zora's
River and in safeguarding Hyrule's
main tributaries. The Zoras are a
hybrid aquatic race living mostly in water, but capable of venturing
onto land for extended periods. The Zoras
have unique scales on their skin that allow them to stay in water for
prolonged durations. Because Hylians
cannot naturally breathe underwater, Zoras
will fashion special tunics made from their scales, allowing the
wearer to breathe underwater with ease without the threat of
drowning. Because the Zoras shed
their scales at seasonal intervals, manufacturing the said tunics is
a costly task. Hylian Soldiers,
Hyrulean Knights,
and wealthy thrill-seeking
citizens are the only people that seem to ever have any need to use
them.
King
Zora's wife,
Queen
Lacuna Insulana Hybrida,
a childhood friend to the
Hylian Queen Elspeth,
passed away in the
Hylian Year 1420
when her daughter Princess
Ruto Lacuna Hybrida
soon after turned ten years of age. In honor of her mother's memory,
Princess
Ruto
was bestowed a valuable
family heirloom
which would later play a significant role in Hyrule's
history.
Deeply mourned by her passing, King
Zora
commanded respect from his subjects as their only ruling monarch.
Most
Hylians
who were wealthy lived in the bustling marketplace within Hyrule
Castle Town.
The
Capital City
was
surrounded by solid fortress walls and a timed drawbridge. Because
monsters roamed Hyrule
Field
at night, the city's residents were protected when the drawbridge was
raised promptly at sunset. Hylians
who preferred a simple, quiet life settled in Kakariko
Village
where a
Sheikah woman
named Impa
Umbra Tutor
was born and raised. Impa's
upbringing and later training in the
ways of the Sheikah
earned
her the role of serving as the nursemaid, chief attendant, and loyal
protector for Crown
Princess Zelda Primavera Royalé,
born in the
Hylian Year 1413,
the only daughter to King
Gustaf
and Queen
Elspeth Leona Tahira Royalé.
In
the Hylian Year 1423, King
Gustaf and with the aid of his Chief
Councilor, Lord Rauru Rērum Scrīptoris, many years were
spent reaching out to the Gerudo.
Because the young King Ganondorf
had proven to be a valuable ally in winning the war, King
Gustaf still hoped relations between the
Hylians and the Gerudo
could finally be repaired and resume. A treaty between the United
Kingdom of Hyrule and the Gerudo
nation had been in the works since peace had been declared
ten years ago. Every year since, a request was sent out to initiate
diplomacy with the desert inhabitants.
Two Gerudo ambassadors, friendly
emissaries that had established talks with the
Hyrulean Royal Family a decade ago, at last embraced the
pleased notion for a diplomatic summit. Primarily appealing to the
Gerudo King, Gerudo Prime
Minister Nabooru Espíritu herself accepted the treaty as
a peace offering. She even agreed to meet with the King
and Queen of Hyrule in person to
prepare the way for the first official state visit of the
Gerudo King to Hyrule
Castle. To officiate the formal audience, she first sent
out her ambassadors: Roja, Boss of Gerudo
Fortress, and Colorada, the High
Gerudo Equestrian; whom was also an expert archery
markswoman.
Meanwhile,
Princess Zelda, a maiden of only
ten years of age, was having nightmares featuring the desert man
wearing dark armor. Although young, she sincerely believed her
dreams to be prophecies forecasting a terrible fate for the
whole kingdom and her beloved
people. In her dreams, she sees the
desert king gaining entry into the legendary Sacred
Realm by happenstance. The Sacred Realm was a spiritual
paradise were mortals were not meant to stumble into haphazardly;
especially if a mortal have evil aspirations. Those who touch the
sacred Triforce itself would have their desires and dreams
granted. A positive desire would keep Hyrule
productive and prosperous; and nature would have balance. A negative
desire would transform Hyrule
into a barren wasteland infested with malicious creatures with the
liberty to create chaos.
Princess
Zelda was profoundly concerned about her father building
political relations with the Gerudo King.
She believed the Gerudo Prime Minister
and her ambassadors were genuine
people, but dark clouds in her dreams always represented the
desert man in black armor. The portion of her prophecies that
seemed optimistic were the roles a fellow
Hylian and her attendant Impa
played. A Hylian dressed
in Kokiri clothing would present to her the Spiritual
Stone of the Forest. He would also succeed in locating the
two other spiritual stones that completed a mystery about the
Triforce. Impa will
faithfully continue protecting the Princess
and also teach the Hylian youth
the melody of the Royal Family.

The
Origin of Ganondorf Dragmire's evil intentions
After
the War
Amongst the Hyrulean Nations,
and just after his last meeting with the Hylian King, Ganondorf was
travelling at night on horseback through Hyrule Castle Town. Whilst
en route to his desert homeland, he heard soothing, enchanting music
coming from the University of Hyrule's theater building---
...In
1410, not long after becoming king at the age of twenty, he left his
desert homeland to travel into the Hylian countryside. His own
intense lust for universal power led him to take expeditions
incognito in search of the mystical Triforce. He made personal
explorations to the Temple
of Time in
Hyrule
Castle Market,
Kakariko
Village,
Kakariko
Graveyard,
Death
Mountain,
Zora's
Domain,
Zora's
Fountain,
and Kokiri
Forest.
Ganondorf desired the Triforce because he wanted to rule the world.
Long before he ever met with King Gustaf and Queen Elspeth, he had a
secret plan on how to win favor with the Hyrulean monarchs.
The
members of the Royal Family had
secrets. Based upon remembered Hylian
legends, the Temple of Time,
built in the northeast corner of the Capital
City, was actually the entrance to the Sacred Realm. Rauru
Eruditus, an ancestor to the
King's Chief Councilor, commissioned the Temple to be
built to protect the gateway that leads to the Sacred Realm. In the
chamber behind the elaborate Door of Time
was something being protected; something of high importance: The
Master Sword. The inscription on the altar that stood
before the Door was a mystery, especially for the visiting Gerudo
King.
Thee
who possesseth three Spiritual Stones,
Standeth
here with thy Ocarina of Time,
Playeth
thine melody of sacred tones,
Recite
that majestic tune of rhyme.
Ganondorf
attempted to retrieve the Three Spiritual Stones. Disguising himself
on his travels, he listened diligently and watched alertly for any
clues about where to locate the fabled Ocarina of Time. He did learn
about the Kakariko Composer Brothers: Sharp the Elder and Flat the
Younger. These two famous and talented musicians were personally
assigned by Royal Family members to compose great works of music and
theater. They were also given the secret task of studying the strange
powers held within the Royal Family. One brother composed a song that
could control the sun, while the other composed one for the moon.
They had combined both melodies discovering time could be controlled
by playing the tune on wind instruments having mystical powers,
namely, ocarinas.
Ganondorf
thought the time-controlling notes might be the Song of Time, an
essential element to gain entry to the Sacred Realm. He planned to
steal the works of the Composer Brothers, but he failed. The brothers
had destroyed their research on which they had labored over. They did
inscribe the melody deep within the Royal Family's Tomb in Kakariko
Graveyard. In 1418, when Ganondorf came to visit the two musical
siblings, they immediately objected to his demands. Sharp and Flat
died at the hands of Ganondorf taking their secret with them. Days
later, in a solemn ceremony held by the Royal Family with citizens
from the Capital City and Kakariko Village present, the two brothers
were formally buried near the Royal Family's Tomb. Since the true
cause of their deaths were unknown, the official records declared
their cause of death as “drowning
from intoxication.” The official account is that the two brothers
had become intoxicated and slipped into Zora's River and drowned.
Their bodies were recovered on the shores of the river near the
bridge that leads to Hyrule Field.
By
this point in his expeditions, Ganondorf was now desperate to obtain
the keys to the Sacred Realm. He thought he might steal the Spiritual
Stones themselves from those that possessed them. On Death Mountain,
he resurrected the long-ago-extinct Dodongos, fire-breathing dinosaur
creatures that once dwelt within Dodongo's Cavern; the quarry and
food source for the Gorons. The Gorons lived on the active volcano
and feeding on soft rocks was their staple diet. Ganondorf sealed the
entrance to their private mine with a massive boulder. He would only
open the cavern if the Gorons agreed to give him their glowing stone.
Darunia, the big boss of the Goron race, refused to hand over his
people's treasured Goron's Ruby: Spiritual
Stone of Fire.
Failing
in his plan on Death Mountain, he trekked upstream Zora's River and
made his way into Zora's Domain. The evil Gerudo found out that
Princess Ruto was responsible for feeding Lord
Jabu-Jabu, the Zoran patriarch, and their deity. He put an
illness spell on the leviathan so it could not differentiate the
feeder from the food. He waited until Ruto would be swallowed by her
own patron.
Ganondorf
used his magic to write a note under Ruto's signature. He placed the
note in an empty bottle and dropped it into Lake Hylia. He assumed
that if the Zoras found the letter, they might attempt rescuing their
princess. If they failed, they would have no choice but to appeal to
Ganondorf for help in exchange for Zora's
Sapphire: Spiritual Stone of Water.
Ganondorf
lastly ventured into the secluded woodland of Kokiri Forest, hoping
to get the revered Kokiri's Emerald:
Spiritual Stone of the Forest. He tried obtaining it from
the Great Deku Tree, but the guardian of the forest would not relent.
The Great Deku Tree knew how priceless their emerald was, and turning
it over to a stranger with malevolent intentions was never an option.
The vengeful man clad in black armor put a “death curse” on the
antiquating arbor. Ganondorf located the female larva of an
indigenous Gohma arachnid. With a spell, he transformed the
invertebrate from its relatively small natural size into that of a
scary monster. He placed the creature far underground so she could
eat away and nest from underneath the Deku Tree's roots, sapping away
his benevolent power...
Intriguing
Truths concerning Hyrule's eastern woodlands
Since
the Kokiri are frightened of the outside world, they are peculiarly
disposed to just remaining in the village. If they were to wander off
too far in the Lost Woods, they will become Skull Kids. The
wilderness is known for its melodic sounds radiating amongst its tall
trees and its small meadows, thereby luring travelers even further
into the forest. It has become increasingly rare in recent decades
that a Kokiri will leave their village knowing what they know about
Stalfos,
Wolfos,
and Skull Kids.
There are even recorded accounts, from Skull Kids living in the Lost
Woods, of having found a portal that leads to another country. But,
the Kokiri themselves immediately dismiss such claims, believing the
Skull Kids have become too eccentric due to their prolonged
wanderings inside the forest. The Kokiri have a saying when it comes
to the Skull Kids' supposed
outrageous stories: If
the moon crashes into Earth, then we'll believe that you're of worth.
In another time in another place, the Kokiri could never anticipate
how ironic their motto truly is.
One
other account is that one Kokiri is actually the secret guardian of a
Wind Temple, and herself has the power to manipulate the wind. But,
that has never been validated. In any event, many Kokiri do not
wholeheartedly respect the Skull Kids because in truth, they envy
them for their talents of playing the flute; which is different from
their traditional Fairy Ocarina. Since the Kokiri are not
continuously exposed to anything outside of their realm, they are
often understandably upset about their own state of being. However,
they do know that only Saria can travel into the Lost Woods for long
periods of time without encountering danger.
Approaching
Destiny
Ten
years have passed since Oluna Leona Hialeah Hyrulia and her son Link
Leonellus Hyrulia first came to Kokiri Forest. Having completely
adapted to her life in Kokiri Forest, Oluna reared her son never
telling him he is indeed a Hylian. Link grew to be a strong,
dependable young lad of age ten and made friends with all the Kokiri,
except Mido. Although Link himself was uncertain as to why he never
possessed his own guardian fairy, like all the others, he was never
without friends. He and Saria became best friends and she was Link's
closest companion. Even though Link was taught to never leave the
forest, he always wondered where Saria went when she left town.
Despite his nature as any ordinary boy, he did not allow his
curiosity to completely get the better of him. Mido, Saria's Kokiri
friend for many years, always maintained animosity towards the
Kokirish Hylian ever since his arrival, presumably out of jealously.
After Oluna and Link were first presented to the Great Deku Tree,
Saria was told that in the future at the right time, at least two
other Kokiris must be chosen to maintain knowledge of Link's
heritage; in the event Saria can no longer reside in Kokiri Forest.
Much to Saria's dismay, Mido has kept his ceaseless personal disdain
for Link while Saria hoped he would be more accommodating. In secret,
Mido actually admires Link and shields his real sentiments with a
visage of anger. Mido knows that Link was chosen at his birth to
become “a revered hero.”
Since Mido has been taught all of his
life that the Kokiri cannot leave the forest, or they'll die or
suffer endangerment, naturally he develops admiration for someone who
will be a survivor... Saria's other loyal, secret-keeper was a
willing party to the Great Deku Tree's requests because she believes
that Saria herself possesses “great wisdom.”
The
Great Deku Tree orders Saria to transform Oluna into a faerie. Before
Link can take on a brave mission requested from the botanical
colossus, Oluna must be away from her son in her corporeal form.
Saria takes Oluna to the Sacred Forest Meadow; hallowed ground where
an ancient sage, Saria's ancestor, had designed and carried out the
building of the Forest Temple at the request of Hyrule's first king.
Oluna is transformed into a spirit and bestowed the name Navi
and she remains at the Sacred Forest Meadow deeply saddened over
losing her son.
Later
that night, Saria returns to the village. She arrives home and uses
her private bean sprout transport that she cleverly keeps hidden on
top of her house. As she is riding the sprout, she fills the air high
above the ground with incense from remnants of a special, aromatic
forest mushroom to bring her fellow Kokiris and also Link under
repose. Saria, Mido, and one other Kokiri- Saria's secret confidant,
are the only three allowed to know of Link's true identity. And, at
the behest of her spirit-superior, Saria's potion omits all memories
involving Oluna from the townsfolk, thereby removing any trace of a
Hylian's presence inside Kokiri Forest. Link's biological father
Leonellus is forbidden any access into Kokiri Forest and can only go
as far as the bridge in the Lost Woods.
Link must fulfill his destiny without the aid of a strong paternal
figure so that he may become the real "Hero of Time" in his
own right as prophesied.
The

It
is before sunrise and on Link's "first day for the rest of his
life," Navi, having been transformed from a Hylian to a spirit,
is looking upon her new form in the Sacred Forest Meadow, in view of
the Forest Temple. At the point of nearly dying, the Great Deku Tree
calls upon Navi the Faerie from
afar commanding her to bring forth the boy of
destiny; it is now time for Link to begin his journey.
Navi...
Navi,
where art thou?
Come
hither...
The
Great Deku Tree is situated in his own regal and massive meadow,
surrounded by impregnable rock walls. Navi arrives, and with a
weakening voice, the towering tree speaks concerning the Hylian
child.
Oh,
Navi the Faerie... Listen to mine words, the words of thine Deku
Tree.
Dost
thou sense it? The climate of evil hath descendeth upon this realm?
Malevolent
forces even now mustereth to attack our land of Hyrule.
For
so long, the Kokiri Forest, the source of life, has stood as a
barrier, which hast deterred outsiders and maintaineth the order of
the world.
But...
before this tremendous evil power, even mine power is of no avail.
It
is now the time for the boy without a fairy companion to begin his
journey; that youth whose destiny shalt lead Hyrule to the path of
Justice and Truth.

Findeth our young friend and guideth him to me.

It
is early morning and Link is asleep in bed shivering from cold air
that has come through the window. He is having a rather intense
nightmare, one in which he does not yet understand...
The
sky quickly turns dark and a lightning storm begins. The rain is
pouring down faster by the minute. Link approaches a tall structure
made of white sandstone surrounded by a stream. Coming in clearer
view, the drawbridge of a castle gate has just dropped. Suddenly, a
royal, white horse appears. A short-haired woman dressed as some sort
of warrior is carrying a young girl, about Link's age, as they are
quickly riding away. It appears they are in danger and are fleeing
the castle. In pursuit, a dark-skinned man with red hair wearing
heavy, black armor is himself riding upon a black Gerudo stallion. He
spots a surprised Link and raises his hand in a menacing manner...
For
the first time as a faerie, Navi arrives in Kokiri Forest. Flying
about, she takes notice of its other inhabitants and then locates
Link's house. She enters and loudly shouts for the boy to awaken.
Link arises from his intense nightmare. As intended by a long ago
conceived plan, he now has no recollection of his mother; his only
memories involve his upbringing as a Kokiri under Saria's care, his
friendships with fellow Kokiris, and especially the horrible dream he
just had. Navi introduces herself and cheerfully converses with Link,
insisting that he follow her to meet the Great Deku Tree. Accompanied
by his new guardian faerie, Link steps outside of his house.
Taking
deep breaths of fresh air, he enjoys the view of the forest village
including the sight of the distant treeline that makes up the border
of the Lost Woods. He then looks down
and sees a delighted Saria running up the path leading to his home.
She shouts, “Yahoo, good morning, Link! Come down here. I just
heard some good news.” Link smiles and hurriedly climbs down the
ladder from his balcony and greets his “surrogate sister.”
Link
excitedly says to Saria, “Look what I have now.”
Saria
replies, “Wow! A faerie! You finally have your own faerie guide.”
She pleasantly giggles, one of her very familiar characteristics.
“This is such great news. I am indeed happy for you, dear friend.”
She takes Link to the side confiding in him saying “Now you are a
true Kokiri, Link.”
Link
is happy that Saria approves and also informs her regarding his
summons. “Saria, I have been summoned to the Great Deku Tree. Navi
has just explained to me that I have an audience with him. What is
required of me? Do you know?”
Saria
knows in advance that Link has a great journey before him. To play
her part in the bigger picture, she gives Link vital information on
how to prepare for his meeting. She reveals “It is quite an honor
to speak with the Great Deku Tree. I trust he will relay to you some
important matters that will require your help. He has found great
favor with you amongst the Kokiri. By all means, go see him. I'll be
at home if you need me for anything.”
